White Tara

Description

As the the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara sat and wept for the suffering of the world's beings a lake formed from his tears and from this a Lotus flower sprung forth and opened to reveal the Goddess Tara. White Tara represents a woman in full bloom in her serenity, grace and the motherly aspect of compassion, wisdom and longevity. Tara was believed by the Tibetans to be incarnated in every pious woman. White Tara has seven eyes, the normal two, one as her third eye upon her forehead and one each on her feet and her hands so that she may vigilantly watch over and work to relieve the suffering in the world. Her right hand is the mudra of charity and the left hand is in the mudra of protection. She holds a branch of three Lotus flowers, hand sculpted and painted by me, one in full bloom, one in seed and one beginning to bloom which represent the three aspects of current, past and future Buddhas of which she is the essence of.

Her white color represents purity and complete truth. She is called upon to assist with health strength and longevity.

Her headdress and jewelry consist of 24 K plated beads, embedded garnets, pearls and an amethyst upon her chest all surrounded with gold metallic powder. Printed upon the back of her golden halo is Tara's very own mantra.

White Tara is a one of a kind (OOAK), hand crafted over wire armature, hand painted with metallic and water base paints and real mohair for her dark mane. Clothed in hand dyed silk, she is 8" tall including her base which is 8.5" wide. The Lotus petals of her perch are hand cut and dyed silk.
